Vergina. Macedonia. Greece. View of the remains of the orchestra and cavea of the 4th century BC ancient theatre at the archaeological site of Vergina. The theatre is where Macedonian King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great was assassinated in 336 BC. Vergina is Ancient Aigai, capital of ancient Macedonia prior to being transferred Pella at the end of the 5th century BC. Aigai remained a sanctuary and summer retreat and a royal burial place. The archaeological site of Vergina is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
