View of fallen Doric column drums and capitals of the 5th century BC Temple of Zeus. Ancient Olympia, Peloponnese. Greece. The Temple’s massive columns lay toppled in the ground, unmoved since being destroyed by massive earthquake in the 6th century AD. The Temple of Zeus once housed the 12 metre high golden statue of Zeus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Olympia was the site of the ancient Olympic Games and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
